The Four Citizenship Categories

Born in the UK? You Might Not Need to Apply.

British nationality law is a patchwork of dates.

  • Born before 1 Jan 1983: Almost certainly British.

  • Born after 1983: It depends on your parents' status at your birth.

We conduct a Status Trace to see if you are already a citizen by operation of law, saving you the £1,735 naturalisation fee.

The "Good Character" Hurdle.

Citizenship is a privilege, not a right. The Home Office will scrutinize your entire history:

  • Criminal Convictions (even minor driving offences).

  • Bankruptcy or Debt.

  • Immigration History (overstaying, deception).

We audit your background before submission to prepare legal representations for any adverse history.

Citizenship FAQs

  • ILR is a visa status that can be lost through absence (2+ years) or serious criminality. Citizenship is permanent and irrevocable (except in extreme cases of terror/fraud). It also gives you the right to a British passport and to vote in General Elections.

  • The UK allows dual citizenship. You do not need to renounce your current nationality to become British. However, you must check the laws of your home country, as some countries do not permit dual status.

  • Yes. Unlike visa applications, submitting a citizenship application does not restrict your travel. However, you must ensure you have a valid BRP to re-enter the UK until your ceremony.

  • Standard processing times are currently around 3-6 months. There is no 'Super Priority' service for naturalisation or registration applications.
